Dear Mr. Mitt Romney,
Your statement represents an evil and unchristian hypocrisy that not only puts America in grave danger but also how dare you endanger our troops by your cavalier attitude by denigrating our core values which help our troops remain strong if captured (ask McCain). One lesson taught to soldiers is that we don’t “waterboard” like the enemy and now they will have lost that pillar of strength if you become president.
You may apologize later if you get the nomination and feel the need to flip-flop again but we have seen a history of your flip-flops and we are wising up. I really wonder about your moral compass. Even worse I fear that you may be ethically and morally myopic. You want to be under the same rules as JFK but JFK then did not turn around and use his religious beliefs as a sword to prostitute his religious beliefs just for the lust for power.
Perhaps you would have been better served as a young man if you had not to gone to France but to have made as your mission the patriotic act of actually serving in the military. Perhaps then you wouldn’t make statements that offend our military as well as a richer understanding the world than the cartoonist way you apparently see it. We see that none of your children have served in the military and that alone shows your true colors. You say they serve by serving you...tell that to the mothers and fathers who have lost their children in an unfortunate war that you will continue as president if America is unfortunate. We do not need another Bush but at least Bush was sincere some of the time.
You stated that your favorite novel was Battleship Earth. Your moral blindness must not have perceived the thread of evilness and anti-American attitudes behind the narrative. I think your time would be better spent by reading books that are a tad more substantial.
I would recommend that you actually read the New Testament, especially the red letter text of Jesus Christ who lived in the earthly world of Nazareth before returning to heaven. I don’t know what it is with you and your ilk with the obsession of the “Ten Commandments” but Jesus specifically came to earth to revise the “Ten Commandments” and to offer forgiveness and tolerance. The “eye for an eye” was replaced with the “turn the other cheek" and to forgive our trespassers. Blessed are the meek for they will inherit the earth. To be meek is not synonymous with weakness as Abraham Lincoln so eloquently demonstrated. Wealth and the acquiescence to slavery in the Old Testament were replaced with the mission to serve the poor as Mother Teresa” did on this earth and not to serve the masters of earthly riches. Instead of the obsession with the “Ten Commandments” maybe you should follow the words of Jesus in the “Lord’s Prayer” and the red letter text of Jesus in the New Testament.
I would also suggest you read the account of the “Peloponnesian Wars.” Yes it was thousands of years ago but it is still a relevant account of a country that had great Moral capital but squandered it because of the hubris of its leaders.
Lastly, I recommend you read the book, “The Ugly American.” It is a little outdated but it really does explain the core values we should be projecting abroad. Now when Americans go abroad they have to explain Guantanamo and this diminishes America in non-American eyes and YES it does matter Mr. Romney. Yes, Guantanamo is probably the best of the lot of these “gulags” but we can do better. We can do better as Americans and we can do better by not having you as our next president.
